Timberline Lodge, Arnold, puts you on Highway 4 with cabin-style rooms and quick access to downtown, White Pines Lake, and Calaveras Big Trees State Park, which helps for a family vacation, a romantic weekend, or a simple mountain break.

The lodge has queen rooms, king rooms, double rooms, rooms with a queen and a single, and a family suite, so the room can be small and simple for two or larger for a group. Rooms have wood-paneled, cabin-style interiors, a microwave, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and outdoor seating, and some rooms add a gas fireplace. Some rooms also have air conditioning, and some have vaulted ceilings or tree-trunk support beams.

Parking is free. The lodge is non-smoking and does not allow pets. It is a 3-minute walk to downtown, about a mile from White Pines Lake, and about 3 miles from Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Guests mention the fireplace often, and the setting along the Sierra Nevada route keeps the stay close to food, trails, lake time, and big-tree walks.
