The Richmond Hotel

The Richmond Hotel is a traditional hotel at 45 Marine Terrace in Aberystwyth, set in a merchant house built in the 1840s with Grade II listed status. The building keeps original period features while operating as a modern seaside hotel, so the stay has more character than a standard chain hotel.

Rooms are en suite, non-smoking, and include shower bathrooms, central heating, Wi-Fi, flat-screen television, tea and coffee facilities, a work desk with lamp, and a hair dryer. Room types include king, twin, family, single, and a suite; the suite has a king-size sea-facing bedroom, a twin bedroom with a garden view, and a separate sea-facing lounge with sofas.

Family rooms at The Richmond Hotel have one king bed and one single bed. Some rooms have sea views and others look to the rear of the building, and the upper rooms are the ones with the stronger views over the bay.

The stay works well because breakfast is included in the building and the hotel has its own private car park, with rear access from Queen’s Road. There is also sheltered space for bicycles and motorbikes in a double garage at the rear of the hotel, subject to availability when booking.

The hotel has a bar and lounge area where guests can sit with sea views and watch the sunset. The front of the hotel is on Marine Terrace, and walking from Aberystwyth railway station is straightforward: follow Terrace Road to the promenade, turn right, and the hotel is by the pedestrian crossing.

The main limit is access between floors: the rooms are spread over three floors and The Richmond Hotel has no lift. That matters most if you want an upper-floor view but cannot manage stairs.
