Freehand Los Angeles is a hotel in the historic Commercial Exchange building at 416 W 8th St in Los Angeles. The building stands on the corner of 8th and Olive Streets, and the stay combines private hotel rooms, suites, and shared accommodations rather than a single standard room style.

Room choices include shared dorm rooms with bunk beds, privacy screens, lockers, Wi-Fi, and en suite bathrooms. Private rooms add flat-screen TVs and sitting areas, while suites add separate living rooms. In-room work space is also available, which supports a stay that includes work time in the building.

The rooftop pool is the strongest on-site benefit, and the Broken Shaker bar sits on the same rooftop pool deck. The hotel also has The Exchange Coffee Co., a restaurant, complimentary Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping, multilingual staff, a fitness facility, valet parking, and a 24-hour front desk with security.

Breakfast can be part of the stay through the hotel’s classic breakfast offer at The Exchange, and continental breakfast is available. Freehand Los Angeles also supports business travelers with a lobby work space, coffee bar, Wi-Fi, in-room work space, and a fitness facility, so it works well for a Los Angeles trip that mixes meetings with downtime.

One limit is specific to the rooftop pool area: hotel guests have a 2-hour time limit for pool lounge chairs. Dogs are allowed only for guests staying in private rooms, with a one-time fee, a weight limit of 75 lbs or less, and a limit of one dog per room; dogs are not allowed in shared rooms.
