Bishop’s Court Estate Boutique Hotel is a restored Victorian mansion at 226 Seymour Street, set on an acre of private parkland gardens overlooking Bathurst. The building dates from 1870 and was built to house the first Anglican Bishop of Bathurst, so the stay has a heritage-house character rather than the feel of a standard chain hotel.
A room detail that matters is the Serenity room, which has a super-king bed with silk, wool, Egyptian linens and a feather-down quilt. The room also has a private marble bathroom with bathrobes and Molton Brown bath products, plus a private Juliette balcony looking over Bathurst.
The stay works well for guests who want meals and hosting built into the visit. Breakfast is included in the building, afternoon tea with house-baked treats is served on arrival, and evening drinks are part of the stay during Golden Hour. A decanter of port and chocolates are also included.
The property has a carpark and secure parking, which is useful at a boutique hotel in a regional city. It also has a communal lounge, bar, open fireplace, outdoor dining area and outdoor furniture, so the stay is not limited to the bedroom.
The tone is intimate and hosted, with the gardens and restored interiors doing much of the work for a quiet Bathurst stay.
